Stephen and Janet Pope run a 50 bail rotary shed for a herd of 600 cows. They recently replaced their aging ACR system with the Milfos system installed by Nind Dairy. Stephen says, "We needed to upgrade the ACR system to eliminate kick-off and other problems resulting in cluster damage and cows not fully milked. We decided upon Nind Dairy and the Milfos system as their quote was competitive and we had used them for servicing our existing plant. The benefits were immediate. With the new ACR system the cows are locked in the bail at the exit point if the cluster cannot be removed quickly enough between end of milking and cow exit, eliminating cluster damage. In-bail teat spray was installed at the same time, which has significantly lowered scc."

Stephen says the Nind Dairy team were able to sort out any issues that arose during the implementation and would happily recommend them to other farmers.

We needed some future-proofing for compliance with changes in the dairy regulations so we had Nind Dairy install an aquaCHILL snap chiller. This had the additional benefit of increased reliability as our vat chiller was getting older. Now the vat chiller is hardly switching on as the milk arrives at temperature - with the resultant saving in power. The glycol chiller also preheats water to our hot water cylinders to around 40 degrees.

We have farms running sheep, beef and dairy, with the dairy herds we have one with 380 cows and one with 500. Altogether the land comes in at about 5,000 acres, but that includes fattening paddocks etc. We visited outback Queensland recently and noticed the change from windmills and petrol motor pumps for water to solar-powered pumps. You’re talking acres of solar.

The pressure for us is really only in the summer months, so the Solaris Pro is a simple solution – on a hot day, the sun shines, and water flows. Another big draw with a solar pump set-up is we wanted to have something that didn’t create yet another job for staff on the farm. We don’t have to rely on staff to fill the pump with petrol or to keep such a close eye on the water levels. If we run out of water in summer, it can take us forever to catch up. Looking at our allocated water, we really should have enough but somewhere, somehow, we fall short. The Solaris Pro is our insurance policy.

We like working with Nind Dairy Services in Balclutha because they’re local. It’s important for us to support local businesses as if you don’t, one day you’ll have to travel further for that service. The Nind Dairy Services team are friendly, professional and good to deal with. With the Solaris, I’ve been surprised to see it running even on cloudy days. It’s been getting a lot of interest, I’ve been telling people it’s for SkyTV at the maimai, but it’s a serious option that we’re considering on one of our other farms; it doesn’t come with the same level of setup costs, or the ongoing labour, which makes it a viable option to consider.

Maurice Dodds – Patrice Downs

I’ve been working with Nind Dairy Services and Electrical for about 16 years now. We had significant manganese and iron deposits causing issues on the farm and in the plant. You could see the valves were getting a sheen and the pipelines were slowly getting restricted with a buildup of iron. There was a fair bit of ongoing maintenance; undoing them and cleaning them out. When cleaning the shed you could see a build-up of the minerals was affecting the concrete, over time it was depositing a layer of mineral sludge.

The team at Nind Dairy Services sorted out the problem. Going forward, the Microlene system will certainly see improvements on the farm. It’s a lot nicer working with clean, soft water in the plant and far better for the stock to drink than tangy hard water. We’re already noticing a change in cleaning down the plant, in the water troughs, and the storage tanks are looking a hell of a lot cleaner. Going forward, the HALO system will be good for keeping an eye on things.

I’d recommend Nind Dairy Services, they’ve got the expertise and knowledge to sort out a problem. They’re happy to install something new and can give you the technical advice as to if it will be practical to use.

"We went with the GEA aquaCHILL because we were sure it was the most efficient unit out there,” says Ferdinand. “It’s a very efficient unit; at the end of milking the unit turns off, milk goes in at 4ºC, you don’t have to worry about it.

"We are getting 700 litres of hot water every milking out of the unit, so it is a massive power saving on the water heating side of it,” Ferdinand adds.

“Milk is our source of income and we need to protect it and make sure it’s getting picked up. The best insurance policy was putting in the snap chiller – it’s income protection insurance”

“As per usual, Nind is very efficient, quick - in and out - done over two days between milkings. The second day was only maybe an hour just to finish off and go over how to operate it then we were into it. There was pretty much no interruption to us, which was ideal.

“We’ve always had good service from Nind Dairy Services, so it was a no brainer to go with GEA and have Nind install it.”

“Knowing how well the aquaCHILL works and how efficient it is, I wish we had put it in 10 years ago” Running in tandem with your vat, the aquaCHILL is designed to help farmers meet cooling standards with a simple ‘plug and play’ solution that can be retrofitted to work with any system, existing or new.

Mike Adams - Arrow Dairies

We run approx. 2,100 cattle on Arrow Dairies. Nind Dairy Services installed a 54 bale shed for us eight years ago, and a 64 bale shed four years ago, with a snap chiller. This year (2018) they’ll be putting in a 54 bale rotary shed and we’ll be getting another snap chiller. Nind Diary Services are great. They say what they’re going to do, keep to their prices, and deliver. They are experts in their field.

With our 64 bale shed we installed a AquaCHILL snap chiller. The snap chiller has been fantastic since we installed it. We’ve had a huge saving on power, and milk is hitting the vat at 4°c. It’s given us piece of mind. For example, a few days ago we had a power cut and the power was out for 4-5 hours, during that time the milk stayed at below 10°c, which was a huge relief.

With these new milk regulations coming through they’re getting really tough and it’s just one less thing we have to worry about. I’d recommend Nind Dairy Services. They’re good guys, and really know what they’re talking about.

We have been working with Nind Dairy since 2006, we continue to work with them because they offer great a service at a fair price. The Nind team are very responsive, and have a team with a great deal of knowledge and experience, which means they don’t have to go far to provide solutions. Being available 24/7 is a major benefit and if something needs fixed they’ll get it right first time.

In June 2017 we did a complete upgrade to our milking shed over the winter months, going from a 30 aside to 40 aside with Automatic cup removers (ACR’s). We put in a new milking plant, and extended the shed and yard; which certainly helped reduced the milking times, improved cow flow and improved staff morale. We decided to go with the (ACRs) because we acknowledged the efficiencies that we could get from them. We have already noticed a decrease in somatic cell count – which has reduced the need for treatment of mastitis cows. Overall, it has been a very successful project.

We were impressed with the confidence and the ability of the Nind team. They completed the job to a tight deadline, which is a credit to them, their team and shows their level of professionalism. For me, working with Nind on the project was about making the decision to work with a group that was willing to listen, and provide solutions. I was impressed with their level of knowledge, reliability and quality of workmanship. In summary, this has all resulted in a better environment for my team, the livestock, and Nind have helped futureproof my business

Kelvin, Sinclair Transport

Nind Dairy Services have been fixing things up for us for a few years now. We originally found out about them through word of mouth. We’d been told they were good to deal with, and that’s not wrong. The GEA Sloped Screen Separator was the first real big job that we’ve had to call on Nind Dairy Services for.

The old system wasn't coping. It’s been brilliant for our business as Nind Dairy Services have made everything just a whole lot easier, we’re no longer paying for all this ongoing maintenance and they installed it in just half a day which was good.  They really stepped up when we needed them and installed the Separator right at a busy time of year.

The Nind Dairy Services team are all really good to deal with and have great communication. Tristan and the team are really knowledgeable. With a fleet of approx. fifteen vehicles with not just stock trucks but also agricultural equipment, the Sloped Screen Separator must cope with a whole range different textures, so Tristan’s knowledge and advice was invaluable.

Nind Dairy Services are good to deal with, know their stuff, and are always up for a good laugh. More importantly, they are always good to get a hold of, especially their back up service and if you’re after an urgent fix, they’re always there to help you out. They’re always prompt and go out of their way to find solutions for you.

Deep Cove Educational Trust Chairperson; Tom Clark

At the latest meeting of the Trust, Mike reported back on how the new pipeline installation was progressing. He reported that it was all but finished and that the project had gone well even though the location made the installation difficult. He also reported that the generator is now at least 20% more efficient. The Trust would like to thank your company for the very professional manner in which they installed the pipeline. They would also like to thank you for the continued support you have given to the Trust over the years. It is certainly appreciated by the students, teachers, and parents who attend the hostel.

For a day and a half, I was lucky enough to be able to work with your staff while they were putting in the pipeline. I was very impressed with their work ethic and dedication to getting the project finished in an efficient and safe manner. Etienne Vanloggerenberg and his men worked extremely hard in very difficult terrain and weather conditions. While I was more of a nuisance than a help, I certainly appreciated the manner in which I was received into the group and allowed to help out.

Once again, on behalf of the Trust, I would like to thank you for your support, it would certainly not operate as well without it.

Yours faithfully,
Tom Clark.

The floodwash is pre-programmed to wash each lane individually, air bags within flush valves releasing green water to wash the race. It’s really effective and frees the farm team up to do other higher value tasks.
